Shropshire school funding

Fairer pupil funding is something I have been fighting for for a long time. It is completely unacceptable that pupils in London can receive over £8,000 per head while pupils in, mainly rural areas such as Shropshire, receive nearly half that.

Article 50

The Supreme Court decided that an Act of Parliament is required to invoke Article 50. I had argued that the Government had the power to begin the withdrawal process on its own, I fully accept the Court’s decision.

High Court ruling

The news that the High Court judges have found in favour of the lead claimant, Gina Miller, that the Government cannot invoke article 50 without consulting Parliament was of great interest to me.

Heathrow expansion

I was delighted that yesterday the Government has announced that it is to go ahead with the expansion of Heathrow Airport by building a new North West runway, as recommended by the Airport Commission. This is a long overdue and much needed investment in improving airport capacity in the UK.

Daesh (ISIS) and Iraq

It doesn’t seem that long ago that we were forced to lay witness to those terrible terrorist attacks in France. Through hard work and difficult decisions Britain and its international allies have steadily managed to curtail the strength of Daesh.

Yesterday in Parliament, we debated the Second Reading of the Government’s Digital Communications Bill. The purpose of the Bill is to enable the building of world-class infrastructure, including faster broadband, better mobile phone coverage and empowering consumers.
