I was pleased to welcome Parliamentary Under-Secretary (Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs) Robbie Moore to Shrewsbury today (20 December 2023). Minister Moore met with myself and colleagues from Shropshire Council and the Environment Agency to further discuss the River Severn Partnership aspirations to find a long term solution to the flooding of the River Severn.
I reiterated the need for an additional £500m of government funding to be made available to the River Severn Partnership so that we can develop flood defence schemes that will permanently protect the homes and businesses along the length of Britain's longest river.
The Minister visit coincided with the taking down of the flood defences in Frankwell Car Park and he took time out to personally thank Environment Agency operations staff as they worked to remove the barriers and restore the car park in time for late night shopping this evening.
