Transport Secretary Confirms Additional Funding For North West Relief Road

I am pleased to announce that Transport Secretary Mark Harper has confirmed that the government will fund the full cost of the North West Relief Road following the Prime Minister's announcement that funding from cancelled HS2 link will be redistributed to support local transport projects. 

Mr Harper told the BBC today (12 October 2023): "Local authorities have had trouble meeting their part of that so what we have committed to do with the money we have saved is we are going to pay the whole of that cost, and in many cases that will bring forward when that project can be delivered."
