Shropshire Council's Northern Planning Committee have today (31 October 2023) approved plans for the North West Relief Road and will now begin the process of tendering for a firm to build the road, and also prepare its full business case, which will be submitted to the government next year.
The full business case will reveal how much the road is expected to cost, with expectations that the final bill will have risen significantly from the 2019 estimate of around £81m. Government ministers have pledged to fund 100 per cent of the road, using money from the scrapped Northern leg of HS2.
I will continue to work with Shropshire Council Officers and Members together with my colleagues in the Department of Transport to ensure that the project is delivered within predicted timescales.
