Many thanks to Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs Therese Coffey for visiting Shrewsbury today (31 March 2023).
During her visit she met with representatives from the National Farmers Union to listen to the concerns of local farmers; visited the temporary flood barriers at Frankwell and met with representatives from Shropshire Council and the Environment Agency to discuss the need for more government funding to be allocated to the River Severn Partnership to tackle flooding both in Shrewsbury and the surrounding areas that continue to be affected by flooding.
Ms Coffey also spoke of how the UK government is taking urgent action to reduce sewage discharges into rivers and the sea. To read more on the government plans click here: Storm overflows discharge reduction plan - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk)
