I welcome this week's announcement from the Home Secretary that there will be additional funding totalling £298 million for West Mercia Police, which is an increase of £18.5 million on last year – 6.6 per cent.
This government funding is part of a total of £843 million to better protect the public and will help make sure that crime is effectively tackled by the police.
For too long, Shrewsbury’s town centre has been blighted by anti-social behaviour and I have been asking for extra resources to tackle the problem. 330 new police officers have already been recruited by West Mercia Police and this additional money will make our streets safer and help cut crime.
