Today (23 June 2022), I met with the Secretary of State for Wales, Rt Hon Simon Hart MP, in his office at Gwydyr House. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss finding a holistic, cross-border approach to best manage the River Severn. Joining me and the Secretary of State was Professor Mark Barrow, from Shropshire Council who is the Chair of the River Severn Partnership, and also present was Adam Lines, from the Environment Agency.
The Secretary of State welcomed the work of the Partnership and confirmed that he is happy to assist where possible and will now consider the Partnership’s proposals. In the meantime, myself and Professor Barrow will shortly meet with HM’s Treasury’s environmental spending team to discuss additional funding.
