Daniel said to the Prime Minister: In the first 6 months of last year, Shrewsbury benefitted from the highest number of business start ups in our town's history. Now the unemployment claimant count is down to 2.5% in Shrewsbury. Will the PM join me in praising Shrewsbury's entrepreneurial spirit, but also re-double Government efforts through UKTI West Midlands to help more Shrewsbury firms to export.
The PM then responded; My Honourable friend is absolutely right, we are seeing an enterprise revolution in our country again. 400,000 more businesses in existence today compared with 2010 and I think the point he makes about small business and exports is particularly important. Currently 1 in 5 of them export, if we could turn that to 1 in 4 , we would wipe out our trade deficit. So I absolutely support the absolutely excellent work he does to call UKTI to account, and encourage them to do everything they can to back Britain's entrepreneurs.
