Proposed airwave mast at Bicton is rejected

Daniel was very involved in the campaign against a proposed communications mast in Bicton and joined with local residents in Shrewsbury Town Centre on Saturday the 13th to protest against the plans.

A unanimous decision was recorded by Shrewsbury and Atcham Borough Council's Development Control and Environmental Protection Committee (DCEPC) last night rejecting controversial proposals for the erection of the Airwave Communications TETRA mast in the vicinity of schools and houses. A large group of local residents watched the debate from the public gallery in the Guildhall, Shrewsbury, and were absolutely delighted with the decision of the committee.

Daniel welcomed the decision to reject proposal for the TETRA mast, commenting, "Airwave Solutions Ltd have the opportunity to submit a further planning application and utilise existing communications sites to provide the emergency services with a much needed communications network. The Airwave network provides a common communications network for the Police and other emergency services and enhances their ability to respond effectively."

Having been involved so closely with this case, Daniel has become concerned about Governmental planning policy guidance which allows for planning approval for TETRA masts in the face of local concerns. Daniel has tabled an Early Day Motion (Number 2028) calling on the Government to reform their planning policy guidance to ensure that councils always have the final say over providing planning permission for TETRA masts.
