Daniel takes part in ´Proud of Pubs´ week

On the 18th of July Daniel had the pleasure of taking part in Publican Magazine´s ´Proud of Pubs´ week.

He was one of more than one hundred MPs who took part in the event, the second of its kind, which saw pub landlords invite their local Members of Parliament to meet staff and learn more about the industry.

Daniel visited the well-liked Brooklands pub on Mill Lane, and met the husband and wife landlord team Vince and Kelly Dales.

Mr and Mrs Dales told Daniel about the difficulties many pubs are experiencing at the moment, explaining that a combination of high taxes on alcohol, the introduction of the smoking ban, together with the credit crunch are seeing a decline in trade for many pubs.

Daniel listened to their concerns and was pleased to be given the opportunity to hear from his publican constituents. Daniel said, "it was a real pleasure to visit the pub and to see the excellent work that the landlords there have done in giving the pub a new lease of life".

He went on to comment, "pubs play a vital part in contributing to the life of the community, and I am very proud to have such an establishment in my Constituency".
