Daniel plans to meet Government Minister Hilary Benn to discuss Bovine TB

Daniel plans to meet this Wednesday with Hilary Benn, the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, in his capacity as Chairman of the All Party Parliamentary Group for Dairy Farmers.

He will raise the concerns of his many dairy farmer Constituents, with Bovine TB expected to be an issue high on the agenda. Also present at the meeting will be Stephen Crabb MP and David Cotton from the Royal Association of British Dairy Farmers.

Daniel has been extremely concerned for some time now about the spread of bovine TB in his Shropshire constituency and in Britain generally. In spite of heavy investment since 1997 and the establishment of a testing regime, the rate of bTB infections has continued to rise exponentially, with an 18.2% rise in infections between 2006 and 2007 increasing to 48% in the first three months of 2008.

Daniel commented, "one thing is clear: the policy measures implemented by the Government to tackle bovine TB are not working".
