POST OFFICE CLOSURES - please sign my online petition to oppose the closure of five Post Offices in Shrewsbury & Atcham.
To Daniel Kawczynski MP: House of Commons
The Petition of users of Shrewsbury & Atcham Post Offices
declares that the plan to close five Post Offices in the Shrewsbury and Atcham constituency will have a detrimental effect on the lives of the local residents. The local Post Office is a vital integral element of the local community, supporting social interaction between residents. They should not simply be assessed on an economic basis without taking into consideration the social economic value they offer to the local community.
The proposed partial replacement of three of the Post Offices earmarked for closure by a mobile vehicle with restricted hours, and in some cases parked on the side of roads or in lay-bys, is a substandard solution not befitting the world we live in today.
We call on our MP to make our concerns known to the House of Commons so that the Government is made aware of the threat to our community from closure of the local Post Office and for this Post Office to be kept open.
As many of you probably already know, our council has signed a 27 year contract with Veolia Environmental Services, who are proposing to put an incinerator at Battlefield. It seems that other waste disposal avenues, such as in-vessel composting, have not been fully investigated and there are theories of health risks surrounding incineration.
Do you think there should be more public consultation before an incinerator is built?

Response to Statement by Shrewsbury Sixth Form College and Shrewsbury College of Arts and Technology
I am deeply concerned at the statement made today by the two Shrewsbury Colleges regarding co-location and my own involvement in this controversial matter. Their comment that ‘the MP has failed to understand the concept’ is entirely inappropriate and I would like to take this opportunity to address the points they have made.
