Launch of Westminster surgeries starts with visit from local Royal Mail sorting office
I recently launched a new programme of surgeries in Westminster with a visit from the staff of the Shrewsbury Royal Mail sorting office.
The group of constituents enjoyed a full tour of the palace; including the House of Commons, the House of Lords, and Westminster Hall. The group then spent an hour and a half with me in a private meeting room where we discussed a variety of local, national and personal concerns. It was fantastic to meet so many constituents down in London. It was especially enjoyable to meet such hard working group of people who are so dedicated to Shrewsbury.
I spend the first half of my week down in London, so it’s great when constituents can visit Westminster for both a tour and a meeting with me to discuss any problems they are faced with, whether the concerns are local or national. I am organising similar events in the future; so if you are interested please get in touch with my office.
As many of you probably already know, our council has signed a 27 year contract with Veolia Environmental Services, who are proposing to put an incinerator at Battlefield. It seems that other waste disposal avenues, such as in-vessel composting, have not been fully investigated and there are theories of health risks surrounding incineration.
Do you think there should be more public consultation before an incinerator is built?

Response to Statement by Shrewsbury Sixth Form College and Shrewsbury College of Arts and Technology
I am deeply concerned at the statement made today by the two Shrewsbury Colleges regarding co-location and my own involvement in this controversial matter. Their comment that ‘the MP has failed to understand the concept’ is entirely inappropriate and I would like to take this opportunity to address the points they have made.
