Daniel's surname is of Polish origin and he has kept it as he is proud of his grandfather and all the Polish pilots, soldiers and navy personnel who came over to Britain during World War Two. As his surname is difficult to pronounce* and even harder to spell, he is generally known as 'Daniel', rather than 'Mr Kawczynski' - which is also much more friendly.
(* Kawczynski is pronounced kav - chin - ski.)
